Authentic, intensely artistic
and highly cultured.
THE ARTS
There’s nothing like easy access to culture to make you feel like you’re living in the heart of one of the world’s greatest cities. Strolling distance from your door is San Francisco’s illustrious performing arts district. Here, you’ll find world-class opera, ballet, symphony and theatre performances year-round. Two of the true riches of our great city are The War Memorial Opera House, home to the SF Opera and the SF Ballet, and Davies Symphony Hall, home to the SF Symphony.

SHOPPING & STROLLING
To be able to make an afternoon of strolling around the neighborhood is a priceless luxury. Hayes Valley has evolved into a cozy neighborhood, with walkable streets flanked by Victorian, Queen Anne, and Edwardian townhouses. Octavia Boulevard leads to a community park at the center of the neighborhood—Patricia’s Green—where locals come to bask in the sun, people watch, and run their dogs.
All along leafy Hayes Street, you’ll find boutiques featuring modern home furnishings and accessories, cutting-edge fashion and fine Italian shoes. Tightly curated, high-end galleries are a delight for the discriminating eye.

SIPPING & DINING
Thanks to a ban on chains, there’s no shortage of artisan coffee purveyors, fine wine merchants and brasserie-bars offering hand-pulled espresso, rare bottles, crafted cocktails and great craft brew.
There’s a vibrant restaurant scene that offers everything from well-established San Francisco standbys to the latest eateries featuring locavore cuisine and quietly inventive food. Hayes Street Grill has long been known for their house-made whiskey-fennel sausages and crispy French fries. Boxing Room cooks up excellent Louisiana cuisine and features all things fried: chicken, oysters, seafood po-boys and even alligator. You’ll also find a near-perfect Chicago-style hot dog at the local Kosher deli and an authentic biergarten serving liter mugs of German beer alongside brats and soft pretzels. And then there’s Absinthe. There’s no one who doesn’t love this French-style brasserie. Whatever you’re in the mood for, Hayes Valley answers affirmatively.
